About This File

DISCLAIMER: I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS WHATSOEVER

The night sky in the early 1900s would be much denser than is portrayed by the stock version of the game. If you've ever been outside of a major city before, you'll know that Red Dead 2's star density is disappointing.

I took the dark nights mod by Alsharad and modified a few lines in each of the weather/w_ files in the timecycle folder. The results are great. I made a reddit thread about it. I got the initial values by someone on RDR2 Mods Discord. Again, I take no credit for this mod whatsoever, I am simply putting it out there.

The Milky Way strip is exaggerated for sure, and I'm not sure that there's anything that can be done about that. However, I feel it's overall worth it for the sake of the rest of the night sky.

If the screenshots don't demonstrate the difference clearly enough, I uploaded a video from when I only had the "High Pressure" weather file modified:

The screenshots are supposed to be a "before and after" but I am still learning this website so it just ended up being unlabeled. The pic on the right is stock, the left is modded.

Looks like it stopped working after the most recent update. Tinkering with it now to see if there's anything I can do to fix

I just installed it on the latest update and the skybox works fine, it just seems to be at the vanilla brightness, which is too bad because otherwise it looks great. don't know if that's what you meant by it stopped working but thought I'd let you know

May I see a screenshot of what you're seeing?

yeah! after some testing and comparisons it looks like it's about what your video shows, just threw me off because it's just a little darker than vanilla, way brighter than the darkest setting of the original mod (which is what i use). seems to be working just fine tho. first three screenshots are with the weather set to "sunny," second three are "high pressure." tried to keep the angles as similar as possible. the difference on high pressure is wayyyy more noticeable but on sunny it definitely still has far better star density than vanilla.

So Dark Nights has 3 presets. Dark, Light, and Lighter. Which preset was the one modified? Will you also be modifiying the other presets as well?
